If, for example, your degree was in history, you may be a good choice for a course in Church history, but not necessarily a course in the sacraments or morality.

Kids will ask deep questions, and you'll want to have depth to your answers. Speaking as a principal, just as I would only hire math and science teachers with degrees in math and science, so too would I prefer to hire theology teachers with degrees or advanced degrees in Catholic theology.

Still, sometimes folks with those degrees are not available. You may wish to look into several on line options that Catholic universities are now offering to brush up in certain courses--that, coupled with your PhD, may make you an attractive candidate to a Catholic high school.Fnwchshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11337287231762962378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-21494946988032423972011-05-19T10:26:07.324-05:002011-05-19T10:26:07.324-05:00I love this article and feel it really rings true....I love this article and feel it really rings true. In your experience, what is the best background to being an effective high school religion teacher at a Catholic School? I have a PhD but not in theology and am now at a transition point in my life where I really want to teach religion. How should I go about this without spending all my time taking classes?Cathynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-41459405980356034672010-08-03T11:08:49.017-05:002010-08-03T11:08:49.017-05:00I am teaching Religion to public school teens (9th...I am teaching Religion to public school teens (9th grade).
