As someone who's dealt with and knows first hand, depression responds very little to reason and rationality.

and by using such a negative word, you will only fuel the sense of worthlessness and lack of value of a person who will not, CAN NOT respond to logic.

depression is not something you can talk someone out of. It is a medical illness - complete with chemical imbalances that affect the brain.

Seek first to understand. And truly, until you've been there, you can not fathom the lack of logic and reason.

Angry is good. But channel it effectively. I too grieve over jason and mike. but calling suicidal and depressed people "selfish" will not help the issue.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1154526532158695052006-08-02T08:48:00.000-05:002006-08-02T08:48:00.000-05:00I believe suicide is selfish, even though I always...I believe suicide is selfish, even though I always try to look at things from all the possible sides.
Every person has its problems and needs to solve them. I'm sure that every person who commites suicide is feeling much worse than anyone could imagine. But think about it, how about the people around these people? why do they have to carry the weight? The family and friends won't ever feel the same again. The won't ever know what they did wrong and, of course, they won't ever be able to ask what went wrong, and what they needed to do to avoid it. Even if it's not they're fault they will feel guilty.
Suicide might be a way out for people, and yes, they are controlling their lives. The problem is that by doing this, they are not only controlling their lives, but the lives of all the people around them.

VictorKantzschehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13313631372687043172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1154525811299455742006-08-02T08:36:00.000-05:002006-08-02T08:36:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Kantzschehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13313631372687043172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1154525681796422012006-08-02T08:34:00.000-05:002006-08-02T08:34:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Kantzschehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13313631372687043172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1136148541339519902006-01-01T15:49:00.000-05:002006-01-01T15:49:00.000-05:00"In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by h..."In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade and he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame, "I am leaving, I am leaving," but the fighter still remains. "

That song now is of great consequence for me because it reminds me of a person that I loved dearly. We've fallen on some hard times, Sir, and we're still hurting. Yeah, we're hurting, but after all the changes we're more or less the same.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1135906155071971522005-12-29T20:29:00.000-05:002005-12-29T20:29:00.000-05:00It's selfish, because our lives are not purely our...It's selfish, because our lives are not purely our own. We live in a society that seduces us into thinking that OUR autonomy is absolute, but we were created for a purpose broader that simply our own. That's our faith.

It's completely selfish....it destroys others, those very people that the person committing suicide "loves" the most.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13701466.post-1135835883065095872005-12-29T00:58:00.000-05:002005-12-29T00:58:00.000-05:00I don't know that you'll get this, but there is no...I don't know that you'll get this, but there is nothing "selfish" about suicide. It is one person CONTROLLING his life. I am sorry if this offends you, but that is how I feel.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
